Well, it’s no secret. I haven’t been blogging a ton. I take a lot of time off in Jan/Febr and I typically fill those months with workshops but i’ve decided to take a year off from workshops as well… SO, you may think i’m being lazy.. but it’s quite the contrary. I’ve been quite active actaully (in activity not regarding a camera… Don’t get me wrong, i love my job but a vacation is nice… kinda like you love your kids but babysitters are essential). Either way I’ve found myself head over heels (quite literally) for yoga. I tried it out for the very first time last August and was instantly obsessed. So it’s become a regular necessity for me.
I’m a runner, have always been a runner, will run until my knees, hips or feet give out but I was getting into a bit of a running rut and wanted to try out the yoga b/c my good friend and guru assured me it’s not just meditation and stretching… b/c hey, i don’t have time for that crap. After my first yoga class when I couldn’t lift my arms above my head for a good week I knew it was a good work out as well.
What I DIDN’T expect is that it’s made me a happier person. period. i said it. it’s true. you may think i’m full of budda bull sh** but I’d go under oath. It makes me feel strong, refreshed and accomplished. It clears my mind and challenges my body in ways I’ve never been challenged. I see improvements every week and I am no longer scared of falling (and i’ve FALLEN). It allows me to breathe and to focus and gives me insane balance. I love it, like nothing I’ve ever done before. SO, as I consider myself a humble warrior and have insane amounts of things to learn I’m happy with how much I’ve grown in such a short period. I could barely do a damn push up when I started and with no background in dancing or gymnastics (other than after cocktails at a club) I was starting from square one. So I’ve found some balance… and a lot of strength and am so grateful yoga has found me (THANK YOU, ALLISON, I love you!!).
I was hesitant to post this.. obviously i have no problems with showing off shoes or nights out but it always bugs me when women gloat their work outs and how amazing they are when they run ‘x’ miles or lose ‘x’ lbs by not eating skittles or drinking wine.. (don’t you DARE take away my skittles or wine!) i loathe those stickers on cars that say ’26.2′… and I don’t generally believe in mixing travel with working out (kinda like the separation of church and state)… so ‘NO, the NY marathon doesn’t sound fun… NY is fun, Marathons aren’t really ‘fun’ so I will not spend money to go to NY to put a sticker on the back of my SUV. Call me a jerk… I’ll talk to my therapist about it.’ But yoga makes you feel GOOD, and maybe with enough yoga I’ll be at peace with work out bumper stickers. For now I think you should try it too. NAMASTE
Come to SWEAT, come to CLEANSE, come to drown in good MUSIC, and be prepared to become a LOT bit STRONGER, inside and out.
I did a photo shoot for Allison for the website… and so we turned the camera around on me for a few silly moves…. See you on the mat!
